I like to read about myself, sometimes to my own peril. I do think about my image, how I'm perceived and what I aspire to become because as pre-professionals, that's what we're always taught. But in my recent set of events, I have been hated on, lied about, laughed at, beaten up, and heartbroken. And what did I learn in all of this?
There is no more powerful substance than actual love. Not the type of love that admonished or controls. Or the type that dreams for people instead of with. But actual love that cares for, prays for, and inspires. Going the extra mile for people you don't know and those you do know is the love I believe in.
I say all of this to say that I had one of the best referrals and support teams come to me in recent life. People who actually love you care in spite of what others say and despite you avoiding them :) People who love do things regardless of your mistakes, but because of your character and who you will become. Love isn't an emotion, but an action which challenges our assumptions of beauty, perfection, and even right/wrong. Love may conquer all, but it also heals all and doesn't have to be all or nothing. Its compromise, not conditions, it's letting go and not squeezing. Love is life and the beauty of what life can be.
I challenge you in the midst of the drama and the midst of our professional and social growth to actually love and care for those you know and don't know. GO THE EXTRA MILE.
