If you know me, then you are familiar with my love of books. You might even have noticed my love of sports metaphors. But you may not know how much I love inspirational autobiographies. Warren Moon's Never Give Up On Your Dreams: My Journey fits all of those loves. Its the story of the Hall of Fame QB and his rise to greatness from the ghettos of LA to success as a college quarterback (where at U of Washington, he lead a Rose Bowl upset of the Michigan Wolverines). But success in college would not translate to success as a professional QB in the NFL. During that time period, teams were skeptical of a Black QB and their decision making ability as well as marketing them as the face of an entire franchise. Faced with either changing his playing position to get drafted or never play a down in the NFL, Moon decided to do what few athletes ever choose: he passed on the NFL to play pro ball in Canada.
As the story would go, Moon would shatter every passing record conceivable in the CFL and would ignite a bidding war for his services in the NFL.
I suggest this book not only for those who care about sports, football, or reading about another famous U of M chokejob ( I love my alma mater, but we choke often). Plus its not a long read. I finished it within a night.
