No one has ever doubted that Terrell Owens is one of the best Wide Receivers in the NFL or that he could break Jerry Rices records. That would be crazy. But the one thing most can agree on is the fact that in most locker rooms, he has divided every team he's been on and been a huge distraction.
This was case in Dallas, where Owens feuded with QB Tony Romo, RB Marion Barber, TE Jason Witten, coach Wade Phillips, position coaches and almost everyone else except owner Jerry Jones. But finally enough was enough and someone from the staff got into Jone's ear. At 12:00am tonight, the story that Owens was released was broken by ESPN.
The 35-year-old Owens caught 69 passes for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games last season. Not bad numbers at all, but they were Owen's worst performance in three years at the Cowboys and his worst statistcal showing since his rookie year when he shared catches with Jerry Rice.
Dallas signed Owens in 2006 after he became a free agent when the Philadelphia Eagles terminated his contract following a four-game suspension for criticizing quarterback Donovan McNabb and team management. Although in Philly for one season, Owen's presence was enough to take the Eagles to the Superbowl in 2005 where they eventually lost to the Patriots.
Owens was also released by the San Francisco 49ers in 2004, where he played from 1996-2003, for celebrating a touchdown on the Cowboys’ midfield logo and criticizing then Quaterback Jeff Garcia.
So the question remains, with a guy like Terrell Owens who is still considered a pretty good pick-up for WR, where can he go with a history like that? Can he have the type of success that Randy Moss had after his troubles with the Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders? Or does all of these bad experiences limit TO's chances of being in the Hall of Fame?
