No One Man Should Have All That Power

This Fourth of July weekend, while everyone was out lighting fire crackers and grilling hotdogs and chicken wings, I had to make a cross country move from Detroit to Baton Rouge, LA. Many of you know that last summer, I moved from the city of Detroit to Houston for my first job out of college. It didn't last long, but the experience landed me the opportunity to move to Baton Rouge and have this job.

For a nice distraction from the hassle of moving, looking for an apartment, "creative showering" (don't ask) and unpacking I took a mini trip down to New Orleans for the 2011 Essence Music Festival to see two of my favorite artist: Morris Day & The Time and Kanye West.

The Kanye West performance was the highlight of the night. He treated it as a full concert, not a festival. The show finally ended around 2:15am!!! Say what you want about Kanye West and his rants, and the ego but he gave serious energy to each song. Also, 808s & Heartbreaks and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sound GREAT in a stadium like the Louisiana Superdome.

Some of the other acts included Jill Scott, Chaka Khan & El Debarge. After the concert, I took in some of the sights of The Big Easy and visited The French Quarter.
